First published in London in 1854 under title: "Ko nga mahinga a nga tupuna Maori he mea kohikohi mai : Mythology and traditions of the New Zealanders" with Maori text only. An English translation was published in 1855 under title: Polynesian mythology and ancient traditional history of the New Zealand race, as furnished by their priests and chiefs. 

Landmark piece of NZ literary history by the 11th premier of New Zealand.

Rare first edition.
