A selection from the Speeches of Lord Cobham when he was  Governor General of New Zealand 1957-1962.

The people of New Zealand have literally demanded this book. Every major speech by Lord Cobham during his term as Governor-General has been followed by the most urgent pleas that his addresses should be made permanently available in book form. His Excellency finally consented to the preparation of the present volume. Lord Cobham's contributions from the public platform have been so many, so varied and so widely applauded that it has been impossible in a single book to accommodate the full range of his speeches. But the selection here offered and grouped under broad subject headings represents an impressive cross-section. The published speeches, grave and gay, read as superbly as they sounded on delivery. Each one carries a lasting message for the people of New Zealand. As a collection, they provide a record of five years of vice-regal office which will be treasured in memory.
