Local DescriptionSamuel John Webb became one of that fragile uneasy section of society suddenly bereft of intimate companionship. With a blustering assurance of self-ability, he struggled on until he felt swamped by too-bigness. The house, the garden, the silence, the emptiness were all too big. Obviously needing care, food, and shelter, people and the benison of nature, he chose "Howardville" and tried to counter his lonliness by writing about life there. |
