Facsimile reprint A-5 - Softcover Originally published in 1880. Born in England in 1868, Henry Fletcher emigrated to New Zealand with his parents in 1874. He studied for the ministry, and in 1893 he was assigned to the Taupo area to investigate the setting up of a mission there. Fletcher had a keen interest in the history of the Taupo area, and contributed papers to the Journal of the Polynesian Society and the Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute. He wrote mainly on the Maori history of Taupo, and also compiled an index of Maori names. He regularly contributed historical articles to the press and published a history of Maori missions, and two Maori-language readers.
